Even so, the overall scores diverged sharply: the cheapest t-shirt in the sample (799 rubles) scored 4.6 out of 5, while the most expensive one (6,141 rubles) scored only 4.4. Roskachestvo states this finding directly: “Price does not affect quality.” But that conclusion has nothing to do with shrinkage — the gap in scores came entirely from other indicators. The fabric on nine brands' t-shirts didn't stretch enough widthwise (stretch under a 6-newton load came in below 41%, short of Roskachestvo's own benchmark), while the fabric on the single most expensive model did the opposite, stretching too much widthwise under a high load. Four more brands fell short of the standard on seam and stitch quality, three fell short on moisture-absorption time, three more on drying speed, two on elasticity, one on moisture release, and one on colorfastness against sweat. Conflating the overall score with shrinkage would be a mistake: on the shrinkage indicator specifically, this test produced no winners and no losers.

Roskachestvo's Earlier Tests: Children's and Women's T-Shirts

The 2022 test is far from the only Roskachestvo study to look at this question. Back in 2016, the organization tested 30 t-shirts made for girls aged 3 to 7, every one of them 100% cotton, with prices across the sample overall ranging from 50 to 3,100 rubles — the report does not break out a price for each individual model. Every sample met the requirements for width change, while two samples fell short of Roskachestvo's own, stricter length threshold of 6%: Salkyn, at 7.7%, and Tekstil Torg, at 7.4% — though both of them still stayed within the separate GOST threshold of 8%.

In 2018, a similar study was carried out covering 44 children's t-shirts made for boys; the purchase cost of the entire batch ranged from 350 to 3,500 rubles, but the report, just like the one from 2016, does not give a separate price for each model. Every single sample met even Roskachestvo's own, stricter standard, with the closest result to that limit being 5.9% length shrinkage recorded in one model from the TVOE brand.

All four Roskachestvo studies share one trait in common: each of them describes one specific, purchased batch of specific brands, in one specific year — 2016, 2018, 2019 or 2022.
