An October citywide design circuit

Dutch Design Week says its 2026 edition runs from 17 to 25 October at many Eindhoven locations. Design Academy Eindhoven separately schedules its Graduation Show for the same period and describes about 200 Bachelor and Master projects. The academy’s programme is one part of the wider week, not a substitute for its full map. On 1 October those projects are announced exhibits, not works the public has already evaluated.

The question behind the objects

The academy frames this year’s show around decisions that persist in materials, infrastructure and habits after their makers leave. It says graduates will use objects, sound, film, performance and interactive systems to examine inherited conditions. That curatorial claim is worth testing in the rooms: does a project explain whose resources it uses, who maintains it and who bears unintended costs? Attractive prototypes alone cannot answer.

A venue as part of the story

The academy places the exhibition at Professor Dr Dorgelolaan 2 and has described cooperation with the building’s new owner, Dutch rail operator NS. A show with roughly 200 projects needs room, wayfinding and time to encounter work thoughtfully. Visitors should check opening details and tickets on the academy and Design Week pages, since the broader city programme and the graduate show can have different conditions.

What a serious review will examine

Once the show opens, reporting can compare the material claims of projects with their sourcing, repairability, scale and social assumptions. Graduate work is exploratory; it should not be described as a proven market solution merely because it is displayed. The useful October question is whether the exhibition makes consequences legible to visitors and practitioners, then supports discussion beyond nine days of attention.
