The confirmed GTA 6 release date in mid-October 2026

The GTA 6 release date that both the developer and the publisher stand behind is 19 November 2026. Rockstar Games’ own page for Grand Theft Auto VI says the game is coming on that day and names two console families: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Take-Two Interactive, the company that owns Rockstar, repeated the same day in its quarterly results of 7 August 2026, filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. The release table in that filing lists the game for PS5 and the Xbox Series consoles and for nothing else.

The date was still in place on 15 October 2026, the day this story was written. That day Rockstar published a launch trailer without any advance teaser, and Kotaku, reporting on it, wrote that the game arrives next month, on 19 November. A trailer five weeks before launch does not guarantee the day. If the date moved again, the first places to carry the news would be Rockstar’s newswire and a Take-Two statement, as happened with both earlier delays.

How the Grand Theft Auto VI date moved from 2025 to November 2026

The first trailer, shown in December 2023, promised a 2025 release window, as the Wikipedia article on the game records. On 2 May 2025 Take-Two announced the first delay in a statement filed with the regulator: the game, expected in the autumn of 2025, was now planned for 26 May 2026, inside the company’s fiscal year 2027. Chief executive Strauss Zelnick said the company fully supported Rockstar taking additional time to realise its creative vision.

Six months later the date moved again. Take-Two’s results release of 6 November 2025 carried the headline that GTA VI was now launching on 19 November 2026, and Zelnick said the publisher remained excited and confident about it. A second trailer had come out in between, on 6 May 2025, according to Wikipedia. Each change was announced months ahead, never in the final weeks.

Since then the November date has held, and Take-Two has repeated it in later quarterly reports. The August 2026 release names excitement around the 19 November launch as one reason the company kept its outlook for the fiscal year ending 31 March 2027: net bookings of 8.0 to 8.2 billion dollars. Net bookings are Take-Two’s own measure of sales. The figure is a forecast, not a result, and the company will say how it went only after the launch.

Pre-orders, pre-load and a physical box without a disc

Pre-orders opened at midnight local time on 25 June 2026. The announcement, issued by Rockstar on 24 June and republished in full by the trade site Game Developer, set the rules that still apply today. Buyers of the digital version can pre-load the game from 12 November, a week before launch, so the download can finish before release day rather than on it.

The physical version is the unusual part. According to the same release, the box contains a download code and goes on sale from 12 November so that its owners can pre-load as well. Fortune, writing the day after the announcement, reported that the physical boxes hold only a code and that Rockstar had said discs would follow months later. Neither Rockstar’s page nor the June announcement gives a date for a disc, so a buyer who wants one should not count on it in November.

GTA 6 editions, prices and the pre-order bonuses

There are two editions. The standard game costs 79.99 US dollars in the United States, according to Rockstar’s pre-order announcement, and the Ultimate Edition costs 99.99 dollars. The Ultimate Edition adds an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, clothing and action tied to the story of the two leads. Rockstar’s page describes it as a set of items threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story.

Prices in other countries are set store by store. The Canadian PlayStation page, for instance, shows 109.99 for the standard edition and 139.99 for the Ultimate Edition in local currency. Anyone outside the United States should read the price in the store of their own account region rather than convert the American figure, because taxes and regional pricing change the result.

Copies bought or pre-ordered before 20 November 2026 include the Vintage Vice City Pack. Digital pre-orders also get one month of GTA+, Rockstar’s paid membership. PlayStation’s page adds the fine print: the month must be claimed by 31 March 2027, it can be claimed once per account, and the subscription then renews automatically until it is cancelled in the account’s subscription settings.

Which consoles run GTA VI and where the PC version stands

On PlayStation the game is for PS5 and PS5 Pro, where it carries the PS5 Pro Enhanced label. The PlayStation page answers the question many owners of older machines ask: GTA VI will not be playable on PlayStation 4. On the Microsoft side the announced models are Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, so an Xbox One is not on the list either. Rockstar’s own page adds that the game plays best on PlayStation 5.

A PC version has not been announced. Take-Two’s August 2026 release table lists the game only for the two current console families, and the Wikipedia entry notes that no Windows release was scheduled as of September 2026. In May 2026 Zelnick explained the console-first order at a conference, as reported by Shacknews, saying that with a release like this a company is judged by serving the core audience.

Reports that name 2027 for a computer launch are expectations, not announcements. Many players assume a PC edition will come, yet Rockstar and Take-Two have published no date, no price and no system requirements for it. Until they do, any PC date in a shop listing, a video or a forum post is a guess, and money paid for such a pre-order buys nothing that has been announced.

Leonida, Vice City, Jason and Lucia in the official trailers

The game is set in Vice City, USA, and across the fictional state of Leonida. Rockstar’s page calls it the darkest side of the sunniest place in America; Wikipedia describes Leonida as based on Florida and Vice City as a fictionalised Miami. The story follows two leads, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. According to the pre-order announcement, an easy score goes wrong and the pair are caught in a criminal conspiracy, where they have to rely on each other to get out alive.

The launch trailer published on 15 October runs about a minute and a half, Kotaku reports. Jason explains that his trouble began in the army, and the video mixes gunfights and car chases with scenes between the two leads. Its music is Flower in a Hurricane by Justice, with Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Rockstar has confirmed that the song will be on the official soundtrack.

GTA Online, multiplayer and the age rating of GTA VI

The PlayStation page answers the multiplayer question in one sentence: Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience. The June pre-order announcement uses the same words. As of 15 October 2026 the official pages for the game describe no online mode, with no date and no price, so anyone buying it mainly to play with friends should wait for an official word from Rockstar.

The existing GTA Online is still being updated. Take-Two’s August 2026 release lists the Kortz Center Heist summer update, released on 14 July 2026 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, the Xbox Series consoles and PC. That is the online mode of Grand Theft Auto V, a separate game. It says nothing about how or when an online part of GTA VI might arrive.

The age rating is also open. The PlayStation page states that the ratings for GTA VI are unconfirmed and that they differ from country to country. For comparison it notes that Grand Theft Auto V was rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB in North America and PEGI 18 in Europe. Rockstar’s June announcement likewise said the new game had not yet been rated.

What to check before 19 November and the dates still ahead

The next official checkpoint is 9 November 2026. On 13 October Take-Two announced that it will report its results for the second quarter of fiscal 2027 that day, after the market close, with a conference call at 4:30 pm Eastern Time. It is the last scheduled company statement before launch. After it come 12 November for pre-load and physical boxes, 19 November for the launch and 20 November as the end of the pre-order bonus. Until one of these official sources says otherwise, the GTA 6 release date stays where it is.

Before paying, check three things. First, the hardware: a PS5, a PS5 Pro or an Xbox Series machine, since a PS4 or Xbox One will not run the game and there is no PC version to buy. Second, the store: Rockstar’s announcement names the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Games Store and established retailers, and the price to compare is the one in your own account region. Third, GTA+: note the last day to claim the free month and the day it starts charging, and cancel in time if you do not want to keep it.

Practical checklist

  • Confirm that your console is a PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S before you pay for the game.
  • Read the price in the store of your own account region instead of converting the US figure.
  • Pre-order or buy before 20 November 2026 if you want the Vintage Vice City Pack included.
  • Note the GTA+ claim deadline of 31 March 2027 and switch off the renewal if you do not need it.
  • Watch Take-Two’s results on 9 November and Rockstar’s newswire for any late change to the launch day.

Questions and answers

Has the GTA 6 launch been delayed again this autumn?

Not as of 15 October 2026. Take-Two repeated 19 November 2026 in its August results, and Rockstar’s page still shows that day. The two earlier changes were announced on 2 May 2025 and 6 November 2025, each through an official statement, not a leak.

Will GTA 6 come out on PC at the same time as consoles?

No. The game is announced only for PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series consoles. Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has given a PC date, price or system requirements, so a PC date seen in a listing or a video remains speculation until Rockstar publishes one.

When can I start pre-loading GTA 6 on my console?

From 12 November 2026, a week before launch, if you pre-ordered the digital version. The physical box also goes on sale on 12 November; it contains a download code rather than a disc, so its owners download the game in the same way.

Does GTA 6 come with a new GTA Online mode?

The store FAQ calls Grand Theft Auto VI a single-player experience, and no online mode for it had been announced by mid-October 2026. The current GTA Online belongs to Grand Theft Auto V and keeps getting updates; Take-Two listed one released in July 2026.

Can I play GTA 6 on a PS4 or an Xbox One?

No. PlayStation states that the game will only be playable on PS5 consoles, the PS5 Pro included, and the Xbox versions announced are for Series X and Series S. Owners of older consoles would need new hardware to play it at launch.
